Storytelling - It's a Form of Magic!

With all the forms of entertainment available to us, these days, there's still nothing quite like a good story being told!  What better way is there to spend a cold night than to sit around the fire and hear stories of kings and queens, magicians and travelers? Preferably while enjoying a warm cup of tea from the kettle, or strong coffee from a samovar?

For centuries, great tales travelled the trade routes. The silk roads provided the network of old. There are similar stories in places all over the world. If you read folk tales at all, it won't be long until you find yourself halfway through a collection of Vietnamese folk tales and remembering, there's a story a lot like this that came from Nigeria!

Stories come in the form of teaching tales such as the Jataka Tales from India, or Aesop's Fables, with their moral applications. Some are entertaining and can make you laugh.

It never ceases to amaze me how the most ADHD children will sit and focus intently on a story being told. Their minds are totally engaged, and they make connections to their own lives.

Wouldn't you love to know what sorts of stories this woman would have to tell you?  Who knows what yarns she would spin as you offered her a warm drink, a sweet, and the best place by the fire?

She would tell you a story, not by reading it out of a book, but by gathering the bones of the story from somewhere in her ancestral make-up.  She would knit her tale together in a unique way, just for you. If it were a celebration, she may tell one sort of a story. If it were a gathering following a death, perhaps she would choose a different story.  Whether it's the story of the Firebird or a Grey Wolf or a Snow Queen..you would be transported in time and space.

I've included for you here, a short story, hopefully the first of many to come. This is a simpler, quirky tale, since I'm getting used to the idea of making these recordings and offering them up for public consumption.  I like the title:  The Snotty Goat.

If you took the time to hear this tale, I would love to get feedback from you, as well as requests.
