A Story in Celebration of Tonight's Full Moon

The Sun and Moon, courtesy of  DeviantART
Once, long long ago, in the sky you see this evening, the sun fell in love with the moon. His heart was completely filled with warmth and love for this beautiful silvery maiden. She reflected his light to him in such a way that he felt invincible.  He loved this luminous being with every ray of his light. He went down on bended knee and asked the moon for her hand in marriage.

The coy moon hatched a plan. She said that she would marry him if he could find her a gift that fit her perfectly. Delighted with this opportunity, the sun carefully measured her, then went off to every corner of the heavens in search of a gift that would suit her perfectly.

Several days later, the sun presented the moon with his gift. She unwrapped it, considered it, and shook her head.  It was a beautiful silvery veil. But alas, it was too small.

Undaunted, the sun decided to try again. He carefully measured her and once again searched the heavens in search of a gift that would fit the moon perfectly. It took him weeks, but at last, he found the perfect gift.

When the sun presented this gift to the moon, she sighed and shook her head again. This time, it was too big.

This has happened over and over again for thousands and thousands of years. The sun constantly seeks a present that will fit his loved one. Week after Week, month after month, year after year. Though the gift is never fitting, it is always presented with warmth and love. The sun never gets angry, and he never gives up. He shines and he shines. May he continue in his undying love for all of us.
